When the mountains begin to hint at winter
In the morning air, there is already the faintest hint of the coming ski season. A little more crispness, a clearer light, the mountains on the horizon — and suddenly I am looking forward to that first turn again.
My love of mountains and skiing also shapes the way I photograph. Kitzbühel and its surroundings bring together movement and stillness: following a slope on skis, then pausing with a camera. Snow becomes a drawing. A mountain hut tells a human story. Light makes a familiar place feel new.
I am delighted that three of my photographs appear on pages 74–75 and 79 of The Art of Skiing – Die schönsten Pisten der Welt by Bernard Werkmeister, published by Callwey. The book explores ski destinations and the culture surrounding life on the slopes.
